Categories help customers navigate your menu and allow you to organize your offerings logically.

Creating Categories

Step 1: Access the Admin Panel

  1. Log in to your TypeMenu dashboard
  2. Navigate to Products > Categories

Step 2: Add a New Category

  1. Click “Add Category”
  2. Enter the category name (e.g., “Appetizers”, “Main Courses”)
  3. Add an optional description
  4. Upload a category image (recommended for visual appeal)
  5. Set the display order
  6. Choose visibility settings

Step 3: Configure Display Options

  • Display Order: Controls the order categories appear in your menu
  • Visibility: Show/hide categories on different platforms
  • Featured: Mark categories as featured for homepage display

Best Practices

Category Naming

  • Use clear, descriptive names
  • Keep names consistent (e.g., “Beverages” vs “Drinks”)
  • Avoid abbreviations that customers won’t understand

Organization Tips

  • Group similar items together
  • Consider customer flow (appetizers first, desserts last)
  • Limit to 8-12 categories for optimal navigation

Visual Consistency

  • Use high-quality images
  • Maintain consistent image styles
  • Ensure text is readable over images

Managing Categories

Editing Categories

  1. Click on a category name in the list
  2. Make your changes
  3. Save

Reordering Categories

  • Drag and drop categories in the admin panel
  • Or use the order field to set specific positions

Deleting Categories

Warning: Deleting a category will unassign all products in that category.

  1. Click the delete icon next to the category
  2. Confirm the deletion
  3. Reassign products to other categories

Troubleshooting

Category Not Appearing

  • Check visibility settings
  • Verify display order
  • Ensure category has products assigned

Images Not Loading

  • Check image file format (JPG, PNG, WebP)
  • Verify file size (max 5MB)
  • Ensure stable internet connection
